  • Stop believing that it is "right" to be pessimistic, and "wrong" to be optimistic
  • Start believing that it's neither right nor wrong to be pessimistic or optimistic, and that it's more useful to have a constructive, optimistic outlook

To do this, learn why the first way of thinking doesn't help you or make sense, while the second one does, and then make choices based on what you've learned.

Stop believing that it is "right" to be pessimistic, and "wrong" to be optimistic

Here's why there's no value in this type of negative thinking:

  • Your mind is motivated to be pessimistic and to focus on negative value in your past, present, and future, due to believing it is the "right" thing to do. And if you're ever optimistic, you'll feel uncomfortable and not enjoy it as much, due to believing it is "wrong" to be that way.
  • Since your mind is motivated to be pessimistic, you will naturally experience the destructive impact of pessimistic perspectives and beliefs that are focused on negative value or an absence of value. Among other things, you will naturally have less happiness and enjoyment, less peace of mind, and you will tend to experience more stress, anxiety, and fear the more negative value you see.
  • Also, since your mind is motivated to pessimistically focus on what you "can't" do or achieve, you will have much less energy and motivation and less success achieving things of positive value to you.

Start believing that it's neither right nor wrong to be pessimistic or optimistic, and that it's more useful to have a constructive, optimistic outlook

Here's why there's great value in this type of positive thinking:

  • You have greater clarity of mind due to believing that it's neither right nor wrong to be pessimistic or optimistic. Also, your mind is motivated to be optimistic and to focus on positive value in your past, present, and future, due to believing it is a useful thing to do.
  • Since your mind is motivated to be optimistic, you will naturally experience the constructive impact of optimistic perspectives and beliefs that are focused on positive value. Among other things, you will naturally have more happiness and enjoyment, more peace of mind, and more confidence.
  • Also, since your mind is motivated to optimistically focus on what you can do and achieve, you will have much more energy and motivation and more success achieving things of positive value to you.

Enjoy a beneficial change that makes sense

  • Just as it's neither right nor wrong to see a glass as half full or half empty, it's neither right nor wrong to be optimistic or pessimistic. These are simply two different ways of looking at things and thinking about things.
  • Instead of thinking in terms of right or wrong for optimism and pessimism, it makes more sense to think in terms of useful vs. useless. Optimism is useful in the sense that it helps create happiness and enjoyment, and increases your energy and motivation to achieve things of positive value. Pessimism doesn't help you do any of this.
  • When you consider the merits of pessimism and optimism, it makes complete sense to believe that it's neither right nor wrong to be pessimistic or optimistic, and that it's more useful to have a constructive, optimistic outlook.
