  • Have a general understanding of unhappy ways of thinking (so your mind knows what kinds of thoughts to stop thinking)
  • Have a general understanding of happy ways of thinking (so your mind knows what kinds of thoughts to start or continue thinking)
  • Clearly make a decision and instruct your mind to stop thinking in unhappy ways, and to only think in happier ways, instead 

By taking these steps, you can expect to begin feeling happier very quickly.

What thoughts make people unhappy?

The following ways of thinking naturally make you feel unhappy, sad, depressed, and miserable, in general. So, to start feeling happier, you will want to get rid of these negative ways of thinking that prevent you from becoming happy.

Focusing on things of negative value to you

Impact

  • You have less happiness and enjoyment, since you're not focusing on anything of positive value to enjoy
  • Even worse, you actually feel bad and unhappy, due to focusing on things of negative value to you
  • The more negative value you see, the more miserable and unhappy you'll predictably become

Sensibility

  • Just like you can see a glass as half empty or half full, you can focus on things of negative value (and feel miserable), or focus on things of positive value (and feel happier)
  • Since it's just as valid to focus on things of positive value, as it is to focus on things of negative value, it makes no sense to focus on the negative value, which makes your life worse, when you could be easily making your life better by focusing on the positive value
  • Even if you're focusing on a "negative situation" (like losing a job), you can still focus on something of positive value (like what you can do to improve your situation)
  • So it clearly makes no sense to dwell on negative value that will never benefit you or improve your situation, when you can always turn your attention to something of positive value that will benefit you and improve your situation

Believing that you can't accept any positive value that you see as good enough for you to be pleased or satisfied with it

Impact

  • You feel powerless and helpless to accept positive value as good enough for you to be pleased or satisfied with it, due to believing you "can't" do this; so you naturally feel weaker and less happy
  • You also have no energy or motivation to accept positive value as good enough for you to be pleased or satisfied with it, since you believe it's pointless to even try to do so
  • The result is that you don't accept any positive value that you see as good enough for you to be pleased or satisfied with it... So you are never pleased, or satisfied, or happy, no matter how much positive value you see

Sensibility

  • This is nonsense! Clearly you CAN accept any positive value that you see as good enough for you to be pleased and satisfied with it. This is simply a choice that you can make if you want. 
  • And it doesn't make sense to ever think that there has to be "more" positive value for you to accept the positive value as "good enough" for you to be pleased or satisfied with it...
  • After all, you can always accept any positive value that you see as already good enough (which makes complete sense, since it's already something positive), and you can additionally accept any more positive value that comes along later... This way, you're already happy with what you have, and you only become happier and happier with more positive value.

Believing that it is bad or wrong for you to feel pleasure or satisfaction, and therefore not allowing yourself to experience these enjoyable emotions

Impact

  • You don't enjoy feeling pleasure or satisfaction (!), due to believing that it's wrong to do it
  • Indeed, you actively prevent yourself from feeling pleasure or satisfaction, guaranteeing that you will not feel happy, no matter how much positive value you see in your life
  • If, for any reason, you miraculously do feel some sort of pleasure or satisfaction, it will still feel "bad" or "wrong" to you, so you won't enjoy it as much... And you will quickly revert back to not feeling happy, which feels more "right" to you

Sensibility

  • Where is the badness or wrongness in feeling pleasure or satisfaction?
  • Feeling pleasure and satisfaction makes life more enjoyable, worthwhile, meaningful... 
  • So it makes absolutely no sense to believe that it's "bad" or "wrong" to feel pleasure or satisfaction... Instead, it makes complete sense to believe that it's ok and great to feel these things!

How to get rid of unhappy thoughts

Once you learn why you're better off without these negative, unhappy ways of thinking, this understanding naturally reduces -- and ideally eliminates -- your mind's motivation to think this way, which is how to block out unhappy thoughts, almost as if by 'magic'. 

This will help you to stop feeling sad, depressed, and unhappy, which is excellent. 

But to actually feel that positive feeling of happiness, now you've got to think in happy ways that will make you feel happier.

This is essential for feeling happy, since you will not feel happy unless you see something of positive value that you can enjoy. It is that simple.

  • You have more happiness and enjoyment, since you're focusing on something of positive value to enjoy
  • The more positive value you see, the happier you'll predictably become
  • Also, the more positive value you see, the more energized you'll tend to feel, so you'll naturally feel better physically as well as emotionally

Believing that you can accept any positive value that you see as good enough for you to be pleased and satisfied with it, and choosing to do so

It is crucial for you to accept positive value that you see as good enough for you to be pleased and satisfied with it, if you want to feel happy. 

This is because no matter how much positive value you see, you will still never feel happy if the positive value is not good enough for you. 

Impact

  • You feel more powerful and more confident, due to believing that you can accept any positive value as good enough for you to be pleased or satisfied with it; so you already naturally feel better, stronger, and happier
  • You are also more energized and motivated to accept whatever positive value you see as good enough for you to be pleased and satisfied with it, since you believe there's a point in doing it...
  • And there is a point in doing it. By choosing to accept any positive value you see as good enough for you to be pleased and satisfied with it, you naturally always feel happier, and enjoy life more as a result, no matter how much positive value you see at any time

Sensibility

  • Clearly you CAN accept any positive value that you see as good enough for you to be pleased and satisfied with it. This is simply a choice that you can make if you want. So it makes complete sense to believe this and also do it.
  • It also makes sense to think that any amount of positive value is already good enough for you to be pleased or satisfied with it, and that there doesn't have to be more positive value before you can be pleased or satisfied with it... 
  • This way, you can always accept any positive value that you see as already good enough (which makes complete sense, since it's already something positive), and you can additionally accept any more positive value that comes along later... By doing this, you're already happy with what you have, and you only become happier and happier with more positive value.

Believing that it is ok and great for you to feel pleasure and satisfaction, and therefore allowing yourself to experience these enjoyable emotions

In order for you to actually feel happy -- to feel that enjoyable, pleasurable emotion -- It is crucial that you allow these emotions to occur. Otherwise, you will not experience the actual feeling of happiness that you want. 

For example, at a funeral, you might see plenty of positive value in your life that is good enough for you to be pleased and satisfied with it, yet not feel happy due to believing that it is 'wrong' for you to experience any pleasure or satisfaction at such a moment.

This is how feelings of happiness can be 'blocked' by you. So to feel happy, don't do this! Instead, allow yourself to feel happy by accepting that it is ok and great for you to feel happy -- which it clearly is, the more you think about it.

Impact

  • You enjoy feeling pleasure and satisfaction more, due to believing that it's ok and great for you to do this
  • By allowing yourself to feel pleasure and satisfaction, you enjoy actually feeling happy, whenever you see positive value in your life and accept it as good enough for you to be pleased and satisfied with it
  • And since you believe it's great to feel happy... You feel even happier when you're happy, which makes the emotion even stronger and more enjoyable

Sensibility

  • Feeling pleasure and satisfaction makes life more enjoyable, worthwhile, meaningful... 
  • It not only benefits you, but it also benefits others as well, since they enjoy and benefit from your company more, the more enjoyable and happier you are to be around
  • When you consider all this, it makes complete sense to believe that it's ok and great to feel pleasure and satisfaction, and to always allow yourself to experience these enjoyable emotions

How to think happy thoughts that make you feel happier

Once you learn why each of these happy ways of thinking benefits you, you naturally increase your mind's motivation to think in these ways that make you feel happy. 

And this is how you naturally start feeling happier on autopilot, almost as if by 'magic'. 

The last thing to do is to rewire your brain for positivity by consciously choosing to reject these unhappy ways of thinking, and to accept and use these happier ways of thinking, instead.
